WOH!
However, it happened at 4 in the morning, while most of us were Zzzzzzzzzzing away. Damn, I didn't even get the chance to feel it!
I did wake up around 4:30am though, but I'm sure it had nothing to do with the earthquake. I tend to wake up 2-3 times during the night on a regular basis. So, I decided to watch last night's HILARIOUS Chelsea Lately until I fell back asleep!
But of course, I come to work and there is ALWAYS that one person who proclaims, "Oh, Yes i felt it! It woke me up! It practically knocked me out of my bed! Ahhhhh!"
Please.
Gimme a break. You live in my neighborhood here in Chicago. It happened around DeKalb, IL which is about an hour away...and the magnitude was only 3.8 on the Richter Scale.
If you felt anything, it wasn't THAT scary. Don't make me doubt everything you have ever said to me for as long as I've known you!!!
Grrr!
Now, DeKalb is my hometown. In fact, that is where my parents currently reside. I spent all of Junior high and High School there.
SO, for all of my old high school friends, or anyone else who lives in DeKalb, IL...Did you feel it?
I called my mom this morning, who lives right in the middle of it all, to make sure that all is OK. She said that there was no way that you couldn't feel it!
My mother has an excuse to be frightened though, as she is legally blind. I can't even imagine how it would feel to be woken up by the earth shaking, and not being able to see what is happening around you!
I would need a Boniva to calm me down!
Well...at least there are no reports of major injuries or deaths!
Now, can I get something (or someone) to come along and make me feel the earth move under my feet?!? Please???
Paul! Remember a few years back when we lived in Rockford and we felt that earthquake at work? That was a little spooky!

ReplyDeleteI've actually experienced an earthquake before when I was living in Missouri. It can get pretty frightening. You never know when Mother Nature is going to release her wrath!
ReplyDeleteUsed to feel 'em all the time when i lived in California. There is a town there, Hollister, that has over 200 earthquales a DAY! Now, a lot of them cann't be felt, but, sheesh 200!

ReplyDeleteHey, TJ and I both felt it, although he sat up, grunted, and went back to sleep, and forgot about it. I thought it was just a really big plow...which is funny, since it was unfortunately more likely that there was an earthquake near DeKalb than it was that they actually plowed my street...sigh...
ReplyDeleteI love your post above about quotes--I am obsessed with Abraham Lincoln, and I like to do a lot of his quotations with my students. One of my favorites of his? After being called two faced in a political discussion, he said, "If I had two faces, would I wear this one?" Sorry--that one makes me laugh, and since tomorrow IS Lincoln's birthday...well...history geek had to come out!
